Summer is here and the heat is already starting. We compiled three unusual varietals that we think perfectly quench the thirst that this season brings. Below you will find a couple of selections that we think pair perfectly with this time of the year. Enjoy, explore and have fun discovering our list. What to taste them all? Enjoy them as a flight!

Castellari Bergaglio,Fornaci, Gavi, 2008
ITALY
This lovely light white wine from the Gavi region of Italy is made from the Cortese grape. We love the notes of crisp apple, citrus and minerality that this wine brings to the table. The Fornaci is made from hillside vineyards in the Tassarolo region, whose name derives from the brick furnace that once stood there indicating the high clay content of the soil in the area. The wine is textbook Gavi – fresh tasting, with a full flavored finish.

Chesebro Vermentino, 2008
CARMEL VALLEY
Vermentino is a variety most often associated with Sardinia, Corsica and Liguria but this one is grown right here in California. It has appealing aromas of pears and citrus and a smooth palate balanced by mouthwatering acidity. Undercurrents of spice finish this wine to bring a nice element of complexity not normally experienced in a white wine.

Botani, Moscatel Seco, 2008 MALAGA
SPAIN
Don’t let the name fool you. This dry Muscat from the very southern region of Spain is hitting it out of the ballpark for us. With a nose full of bright citrus fragrant aromas we expected a sweetness of flavor but were pleasantly surprised by the bone dry finish of this wine with a touch of minerality. What a fantastic wine to enjoy on a hot day.
